Just to complete the picture...the Klingon alphabet above is with +2a via SCART to CRT contrasts bizarrely with the attached which the the same machine plugged into another CRT via RF which gives the alphabet I want!

Hi Rich, Yes this does seem most likely. I had a quick look last night - the tails seem good (sinewy as opposed to brittle) and securely attached to the connectors, though the outer layer of plastic on the tails has come away a bit from the cable itself.
