Many adventures for the PC are based on mainly graphics, using the mouse to navigate and
select items/actions. This has proved a popular format, although we still like some
of the more traditional keyboard operated adventures.
We do however enjoy a wide range of adventures and have therefore played and tried quite
a few. We would recommend the following Windows based adventures for the PC:
Ally's Adventure Through the Glass
* New Version *
Written by Pharos Games, this adventure is a mixture of text and graphics, although it is
still mainly operated through the mouse.
The new version
4 now has
computer
generated
graphics for
each location
and is a big
improvement on
the original.
The pictures are
of excellent
quality as can
be seen from the
above
screenshot.
The adventure is based around the story of Lewis Carrolls' Alice in Wonderland and contains such
wonderful characters as the White Queen, Candy Fly, Alpaca Fisherman, and the Goat Engineer.
There are a wide range of puzzles, including maths and science puzzles which help to make this
program educational as well as providing the standard logic and lateral thinking puzzles.
Broken Sword (The Shadow of the Templars)
Written by SoldOut, this is one of the most popular adventures for the PC ever produced and released for a
host of other platforms. A graphics only adventure where you play the part of George Stobbart who happens
to witness a murder at a small french restaurant and the theft of a manuscript from the murdered man.
You act as the detective and have to solve the murder and maybe even save the world from the secrets hidden in
the manuscript by the Knights Templar some 600 years previously!!
A good spattering of humour throughout and very atmospheric settings make this hard to beat.
Broken Sword II (The Smoking Mirror)
Written by SoldOut, this is the sequel to one of the most popular adventures for the PC ever produced and
released for a host of other platforms. A graphics only adventure where you again take on the role of
George Stobbart who starts off trapped in a burning house owned by a professor who he was going to meet with
his friend Nico, to discuss a Mayan artefact which she had found on her travels.
Nico has been kidnapped and there is no sign of the professor either. You act as the
detective and have to find Nico and solve the mystery of the Mayan artefact.
A good spattering of humour throughout and very atmospheric settings make this hard to beat.
Serpenthead Revisited
Written by Pharos Games, This is an extremely good graphics only adventure which soon drags you into the
atmosphere of the game and features excellent graphics and gameplay.
You play the role of a young adventurer in Xanaria, sent to seek out the parts of the great SerpentSceptre
and to enter the castle SerpentHead and protect the King against the return of the dark sorcerer, Salorann.
The puzzles are set just at the right level to keep your interest, not prove too difficult for the first
time adventure. This will certainly be hard to put down once you start playing.
Tsarevna
Written by Yavsoft, this is a graphics only adventure based in medieval Russia, where you need to explore,
talk to people and solve puzzles. In danger of losing your life, you play a modern day American (Bob Bisquit)
transported back in time, in search of a beautiful Russian princess to marry. There is one available,
but only to the man who can find out her real name !!
There is no real violence in this game and plenty of interaction with the characters whom you meet on your travels,
which will help to make it a favourite with the whole family.
Zabugorie - the Fairy Planet
Written by Yavsoft, this is a beautifully drawn graphics only adventure, where you get to
explore the mysterious planet Zabugorie and interact with various fairy tale characters in order
to solve a wide variety of puzzles. After aliens attempted to steal the Sun, a powerful witch used
her powers to trap their spacecraft on Zabugorie. The aliens have adopted the guise of the local
inhabitants in order to allow them to search for an energy source lost during the crash landing.
It is your task to find this energy source (disguised as a chest) and drive the aliens from the planet.
This huge adventure comes in 5 parts and will entertain the whole family.
